Police Investigate Multi-Motorcycle Crash in Grasonville

GRASONVILLE, Md.- Maryland State Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that happened early Sunday after a large party involving a number of motorcycle clubs left a gathering at the Grasonville Community Center on Main Street.

The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. on Route 18 at Slippery Hill Road. 

Police said that 54-year-old Kelvin Smothers of Preston was riding eastbound on Route 18 when a saddle bag on his motorcycle came lose.

Police said that Smothers then stopped in the roadway to fix the malfunction, which caused several other motorcycles to deviate. 

A few of those riders including, 42-year Tyrone Jenkins of Cambridge, 48-year-old Donald Gaines of  Vienna and 43-year-old Dock Tillery, also of Cambridge, were unable to adjust, and crashed. 

Smothers, Gaines, and Tillery were transported to University Of Maryland Medical Center Trauma Center for treatment.

Troopers continue to investigate the collision for additional charges, including driving under the influence and negligent driving.
