WASHINGTON (AP) - Gas prices have been declining nationwide and in the Mid-Atlantic region.
AAA Mid-Atlantic says the national average price for a gallon of unleaded gas dropped to $3.56 on Sunday. That's a 6-cent drop in the past week.
In Virginia, AAA says a new gas pricing structure that took effect July 1 has driven prices down. The average gas price in Virginia was $3.39 per gallon on Sunday.
Maryland's gas price was averaging $3.61 on Friday, a 9-cent decline from a summer high of $3.70 per gallon in late July. But AAA says the mid-August price was 15 cents higher than on July 1 when Maryland's new gas tax took effect.
The average price in the District of Columbia was $3.81 per gallon. In Delaware, the average was $3.57 per gallon.
