Ex-Corrections Officer Pleads Guilty in Conspiracy

Posted:

BALTIMORE (AP)- A corrections officer at the Baltimore City Detention Center has pleaded guilty to smuggling drugs into the facility for members of the Black Guerilla Family gang.

Thirty-one-year-old Jennifer Owens of Randallstown entered the plea Tuesday in federal court in Baltimore. She faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison at sentencing in January.

Owens is among more than two dozen people charged in April in a vast drug-smuggling operation at the downtown Baltimore jail. One of the alleged leaders of the gang, Tavon White, pleaded guilty last month to racketeering conspiracy.

Prosecutors say Owens, who has two children by White, smuggled pills, marijuana and tobacco in the jail on behalf of White and others.
