SALISBURY, Md.- Hagerstown Suns (32-20) starter Nick Lee limited the Delmarva Shorebirds (20-32) to two hits over eight innings to lead the Suns to a 5-0 win in game two on Wednesday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
After neither team scored in the first three innings, the Suns got on the board in the fourth inning. Tony Renda hit an opposite field double to right field to begin the inning. He tagged up to third base on a fly ball to center and scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by Estarlin Martinez.
The Suns added two runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-0 lead. Will Piwnica-Worms led off with an infield single. Then, Stephen Perez drilled a triple to the wall in right-center field to score Worms. With one out, Wes Schill hit a check swing one-hopper to the mound and Luc Rennie threw wide to the plate and Worms scored.
Shorebirds starter Rennie went five innings and allowed four hits and two earned runs. He retired nine of the first ten batters faced.
In the sixth inning, the Suns increased the lead to 5-0. Mike McQuillan led off with a double deep to center. He tagged up to third and scored on a safety squeeze bunt by Craig Manuel. Perez, who walked, scored from third on a two out grounder to short that was misplayed by Adrian Marin.
Harry Marino went two innings out of the pen. He gave up three hits and one earned run. Sander Beck entered in the eighth inning and hurled two scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
Lee was the story for Hagerstown. In a season long eight innings, he struck out a season high ten batters.
The Shorebirds and Suns play the series finale on Thursday, Aug. 15 at 7:05 p.m. LHP Matt Taylor is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
