Police in Del. Schedule 2 Weekend DUI Checkpoints

DOVER, Del.- Police in Delaware have scheduled two DUI checkpoints across the state this weekend as part of a crackdown against drunk driving.

According to the state Office of Highway Safety, the checkpoints will be held this weekend at the following locations:

Friday, Aug. 16

  • Wilmington (New Castle County DUI Task Force)- checkpoint

Saturday, Aug. 17

  • Dover- (Delaware State Police)- checkpoint

The checkpoints are part of the ongoing Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign, a regional sobriety campaign aimed at arrested DUI offenders. The OHS said a total of 40 people have been arrested for drunk driving since this year's campaign began July 5. In addition to the 40 DUI arrests, officers have also captured eight wanted individuals, made seven drug arrests, issued 12 seat belt citations and issued 120 citations for various other traffic violations.

There have been more than 2,542 DUI arrests made statewide since January, according to the OHS.
