ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland officials are set to announce that the Dover Bridge near Easton will be replaced.

Erin Henson, a spokeswoman with the Maryland Department of Transportation, said Thursday that about $50 million will go toward replacing the bridge, which carries Maryland Route 331.

Gov. Martin O'Malley is scheduled to attend a news conference at the bridge on Friday to announce investments in transportation projects on the Eastern Shore to improve safety and relieve congestion.

The Dover Bridge, which was built in 1932, connects Talbot and Caroline counties. The swing-span bridge has two 12-foot lanes, but no shoulders. It has a clearance over the Choptank River of only about 12 feet.

The O'Malley administration has been announcing transportation initiatives after lawmakers approved Maryland's first gas tax increase in two decades this year.
