Del. Family Claims Landlord Forces Them Out, Religion is to Blame

Posted: Updated:

FELTON, Del.- A family in Felton claims their landlord is forcing them out of their home after hearing about their religion.

"It's time for people to know about Wiccan beliefs," said Candice Huff, who has been living with her boyfriend, 11- and 14 year-old sons, for a couple months, in a mobile home in Felton. "And to know we are not the devil. We practice a legitimate religion, just like everybody else."

Huff said neighbors started harassing her family.

"[They would say] stay away from her. She's a witch. She's a voodoo lady. They all call me the 'Voodoo Lady' out here. "

Now Huff claims the landlord wants her out.

"It's stressing me out, because I am getting ran out of the community."

But landlord Dorothy May, of Felton, said that's not true.

"Everybody can practice whatever religion you want," said May. She added "nobody has ordered her to do anything. She said she was unhappy. My husband told her, she wasn't expecting his answer, then it's best that you look for another place quote-unquote."

May said the issue is not religion. She said it's the behavior complaints coming from other neighbors.

"And I am not going to tolerate that," said May. "And all my husband said if you don't like it here, it's best that you move out."

Although Huff said she's harassed every day, she and her family will keeping praying for a place to finally call home.
