Va. Man Accused of Scamming Store Twice in 1 Day

Posted:

STAFFORD, Va. (AP)- Police say a Stafford County man scammed a Wal-Mart store twice in one day, and then returned a third time to make a complaint.

Forty-nine-year-old Randolph Byrd is charged with two counts of obtaining money under false pretenses.

Sherriff's spokesman Bill Kennedy said that the suspect received a refund at the service desk on Sunday for an aquarium tank that he hadn't bought. About four hours later, he obtained another refund for a coffeemaker that he hadn't bought.

The refunds were put on gift card.

After the man left the service desk the second time, the scheme was discovered and the card was deactivated.

Kennedy says Byrd was arrested after he went to the service desk a third time to complain about the card's deactivation.
