Md.'s Highest Court Disbars Decertified Lawyer

Posted:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP)- Maryland's highest court has disbarred an attorney who practiced law for more than a year without certification.

The Court of Appeals of Maryland explained last week why it disbarred Michael Francis Gerace immediately after hearing his case June 25.

The Attorney Grievance Commission filed a petition for disciplinary action against Gerace in 2012 after a former client filed a complaint. The client had retained Gerace to get a security deposit back from his landlord and said Gerace acted inappropriately, including trying to change an agreed upon fee. Around the time he was retained, Gerace had also been decertified for failing to pay his annual fees.

Gerace had been a member of the Maryland Bar since 1980. He declined to comment on the decision.
