Shorebirds Fall to BlueClaws, 11-4

LAKEWOOD, N.J.- The Lakewood BlueClaws scored eight unanswered runs winning 11-4 over the Delmarva Shorebirds Sunday night at FirstEnergy Park.

The Shorebirds led the game early in the third inning. Joel Hutter started it off with a double to deep left-center field. Chase Weems followed it up with a single that put runners at first and third. Then, Kris Richards hit an RBI single to center field to give the Shorebirds a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Adrian Martin hit a two-run single stretching the gap to 3-0.

Bottom of the third the BlueClaws responded. Larry Greene, Jr. doubled and scored on a double off of Gabriel Lino. Lino later scored on a fielder's choice by JP Crawford.

The BlueClaws tied up the score in the fifth inning after an RBI fielder's choice by Jiandido Tromp.

In the sixth inning, the Shorebirds got back on top after Nik Balog led the inning off with a double that one-hopped the top of the left-center field wall. Wynston Sawyer sent Balog to third after he hit a single. Then, Lucas Herbst brought him home when he grounded to second and put the Shorebirds up 4-3.

But it didn't last long. The BlueClaws then scored the final eight runs of the game.

In the sixth inning, Crawford reached on a lead off walk off of Mark Blackmar. Two batters later, Art Charles singled followed with a line drive triple to center by Josh Ludy that allowed both runners to score. Carlos Tocci followed it up with an RBI single to stretch the lead to 6-4.

In the eighth inning, the BlueClaws scored five runs against reliever David Richardson.

The BlueClaws' reliever, Zach Cooper ended the game and earned the win after allowing only three hits and one run after pitching in the sixth and seventh innings.

The Shorebirds will return to Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Tuesday, August 27th for the final three home games of the season.
