SALISBURY, Md. – The Delmarva Shorebirds have released the schedule for the 2014 season.
The team is set to kick off their season April 3, 2014 on the road against the Asheville Tourists. The first home game, also the 19th season of the Shorebirds professional baseball at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium opens at April 10 against the Greensboro Grasshoppers.
The Shorebirds will play 22 of their 70 home games on either Friday or Saturday nights in 2014.
"The 2014 schedule has at least two weekends at home during each month, which is great for our fans," said Shorebirds general manager Chris Bitters. "We're excited to again be home on July 4, which has become a big tradition night for us."
The first homestand runs from April 10-16 against Greensboro (Marlins) and Hagerstown (Nationals). The second homestand is in April against Savannah (Mets) from April 21-23 and Charleston (Yankees) from April 24-27.
The Shorebirds have two long homestands in May. From May 7-13, the Shorebirds will play Augusta (Giants) and Lakewood (Phillies). Then, the Shorebirds welcome Kannapolis (White Sox) and Hagerstown (Nationals) from May 22-28.
The Shorebirds kicks off the month of June on the road against Lakewood (Phillies) and Hickory (Rangers) before returning to Perdue Stadium from June 5-11.
After the all-star break, the Shorebirds start the second half at home from June 19-26 against Lexington (Royals) and West Virginia (Pirates).
The team's first homestand of July begins on July 4 against Lakewood (Phillies) and West Virginia (Pirates). The homestand continues through July 9.
The team will also have a four-game home series against Hagerstown (Nationals) from July 18-21.
The Shorebirds then begin a homestand that goes from July 30 through Aug. 5 against Lakewood (Phillies) and Greensboro (Marlins). The Shorebirds play a three-game home series against Hagerstown (Nationals) from Aug. 11-13. They also have a three-game home series against Asheville (Rockies) from Aug. 22-24.
For the first time since the 2011 season, the Shorebirds will close the regular season at home in 2014 from Aug. 29 through Sept. 1 against Hickory (Rangers).
