Salisbury Field Hockey Ranked No. 5 in Nation

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University field hockey team will open its 2013 campaign as the No. 5 team in the nation. The Sea Gulls kick off their season on Friday at the Colonel Classic hosted by Wilkes University.

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association released its preseason coaches' poll on Tuesday. The Sea Gulls received 689 points.

Tufts University reclaimed their spot as defending national champions with 29 first-place votes and 895 points. They will be the top-ranked team to open the season. They are followed by Montclair State University (840), Middlebury College (748) and Bowdoin (741). The College of New Jersey was the only other team to receive a first-place vote.

Salisbury finished the 2012 campaign with a 15-2 record after being eliminated in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Salisbury will return home after this weekend's Colonel Classic to host the SU Invitational on Sept. 7 and 8 at Sea Gull Stadium.
