NEWARK, Del.- Delmarva Power natural gas customers could see a 5.4 percent drop in their total monthly bills this winter, the utility has announced.

On Wednesday, Delmarva Power filed its annual applications for the gas cost rate and environmental surcharge rate reductions with the Delaware Public Service Commission.
If final approval is granted, the utility's customers will be able to receive reduced rates that will take effect with usage on and after Nov. 1.

Delmarva Power noted the proposed change of the GCR decrease and ESR increase would have customers seeing a monthly gas bill rate decrease of $8.18 or about 5.4 percent for residential customers who typically use 120 CCF of natural gas per month. This will ultimately reduce the average customer's bill from $150.67 to $142.49.

This year marks the third straight year of gas cost reductions for Delmarva Power customers. In November 2012, there was a reduction of $23.79 per month, or 14.4 percent for residential customers using 120 CCF per month. According to Delmarva Power, the utility buys its gas on behalf of its customers and sets rates according to what it paid for the gas.
