The South Atlantic League's 2013 Annual All-Star Team has been released, President Eric Krupa announced Thursday.
The All-Star Team was chosen by the 14 South Atlantic League Team's Field Managers, General Managers, Sports Writers and Broadcasters, amounting to a total of 56 votes.
The All-Star Team was recommended by the selections for Most Outstanding Pitcher, Most Outstanding Major League Prospect and Most Valuable Player.
For the first time in the league's history, the team now includes a spot for a relief pitcher.
Gabriel Ynoa of the Savannah Sand Gnats was selected as the Most Outstanding Pitcher. Ynoa has a 14-4 record and an ERA of 2.71 in 21 games. Rosell Herrera, shortstop for the Asheville Tourists, was selected as the Most Outstanding Major League Prospect, as well as the Most Valuable Player. Herrera leads the league with a .343 batting average, 162 hits and 243 total bases in 126 games.
Tripp Keister of the Hagerstown Suns was selected as manager of the 2013 Annual All-Star Team. Frank Viola of the Savannah Sand Gnats was chosen to be the coach. The Asheville Tourists players include catcher Tom Murphy, shortstop Rosell Herrera and outfielder Francisco Sosa. The Crawdads chose third baseman Joey Gallo, outfielder Nick Willliams and designated hitter Ryan Rua. The West Virginia Power contributed right-handed pitcher Tyler Glasnow and outfielder Josh Bell. Charlestown, Greensboro, Hagerstown, Kannapolis, Lexington and Rome each selected one player to be included on the team. First baseman Greg Bird of Charleston, utility outfielder Cameron Flynn of Greensboro, utility infielder Tony Renda of Hagerstown, second baseman Micah Johnson of Kannapolis, left-handed pitcher Daniel Stumpf of Lexington and relief pitcher Shae Simmons of Rome
