CHESTERTOWN, Md.- Seniors Valeria DiLisi (Mooreston, N.J./Moorestown,) Abigail Thomas (Hughesville, Md./Thomas Stone) and junior Krystal Brostek (Galloway, N.J./Absegami,) will take on the role as the team's captains for the 2013-14 academic year, Washington College head women's rowing coach Dr. Mike Davenport announced today.
DiLisi took the third seat of the Shorewomen's first varsity eight, during which the team won the Division III event at Knecht Cup, captured the Lela Kerr Cup, finished first at the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Championships and finished fifth of eight boats the NCAA Division III Championships.
Brostek sat stroke and Thomas was the coxswain in the Shorewomen's second varsity eight. They placed second in the Division III event at the Knecht Cup, took second in the Division III race at Kerr Cup, placed second at the MARC Championship and placed sixth of six boats at the NCAA Division III Championships.
DiLisi spent most of her collegiate rowing career in the Shorewomen's top boat. She was named to the All-MARC Novice team as a freshman in 2011. Thomas is a two-time MARC Academic All-Conference and two-time CRCA National Scholar-Athlete qualifier.
The Washington College women's rowing team is on a roll. Having won its third MARC Championship in five years last spring and earned its first-ever full-team bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.
The Shorewomen open their fall schedule on Oct. 13 at the Occoquan Chase.
