New Report Details July 19 Crash on Bay Bridge

ANNAPOLIS, Md.- A press conference held at the Maryland Transportation Authority's Bay Bridge barrack confirmed Thursday that the driver of the truck that forced a car over the side of the bridge was solely responsible for the accident.

Preliminary reports suggested that the 29-year-old driver, Gabor Lovasz, of Canada, was an inexperienced truck driver, which may have led to the accident.  The MDTA's final report says that Lovasz was distracted by flashing headlights in his rearview mirror.  When he looked back to the road, the cars in front of him were stopping.

Lovasz reportedly turned left to avoid a collision, but still the car driven by 23 year old Morgan Lake and a 2014 Mazda CX-5.  Lake's Chrysler Sebring was pushed onto the jersey wall and then over the side by the collision.  She was able to get out of her car and swim to safety on one of the bridge piers.

Lovasz, who lives in Canada, is being charged with failure to control speed to avoid a collision, unsafe lane changing, negligent driving, and speed greater than reasonable and prudent on a highway.

The full report by the MDTA can be found here. Pictures are included in the PDF file on the bottom of the page.
