Auditors Say Taxpayer Sensitive Information Has Been Public for Years

Posted:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Auditors of Maryland's Comptroller's Office said they found some key, sensitive taxpayer information has been accessible by the public for years.

Some of that sensitive information includes social security numbers and taxpayers' names.

The office of legislative audits says the Revenue Administration Division kept more than 75,000 records on a questionable server, calling the security of the information on that server "lax."

Auditors reported 10 findings in the Division, four of which were repeat violations.

The Comptroller's Office said most of the auditors' recommendations have been implemented. The office also said the sensitive taxpayer information has been removed from that server.
