Cambridge Man Arrested on Gun, Weapons Charges

CAMBRIDGE, Md.- A Cambridge man is behind bars on weapons and drug charges following his arrest late Saturday night.

Police said that shortly after 10 p.m. officers approached a vehicle on Route 50 on suspicion of an impaired driver. Officers said they noticed that 27-year-old Corey Sherrod Sampson, of Cambridge, had a handgun laying in his lap. Police arrested Sampson for the weapons violation and soon after detected the odor of marijuana.

Investigators said during a search of the vehicle, they recovered a large amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, including scales and packaging materials. They also determined that Sherrod's handgun had been reported sas tolen from Delaware.

Sampson was charged with illegal possession of a handgun on person and in vehicle, possessing a handgun with a felony conviction, firearm use in commission of a felony, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, possession of CDS paraphernalia and related weapons charges.

Sampson was then ordered held on $500,000 bond.
