SMYRNA, Del.- Smyrna police have arrested a suspect accused of approaching a group of people in a parking lot and attacking one of them with a golf club.

Robert G. Mundell, 49, of Smyrna, is charged with first-degree assault, second-degree conspiracy, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and disorderly conduct.

Police said Mundell's arrest stemmed from an incident that allegedly occurred shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday on the 600 block of South Carter Road. Officers were called to the scene after receiving report of a fight. When officers arrived, they found everyone involved had fled the area.

According to police, an investigation into the incident revealed that a man, later identified as Mundell, approached a group of people standing in a parking lot, started an argument, then grabbed a golf club and struck a 18-year-old man in the face with it.

Officers said they were able to locate the victim in the hospital and later identified the suspect as Mundell. Following his arrest on the aforementioned charges, Mundell was ordered held in the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in default of a $21,000 secured bond.
