Police in Del. Arrest 88 for DUI Over Labor Day Holiday Weekend

DOVER, Del.- Police across Delaware arrested a total of 88 people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the Labor Day holiday weekend, according to the state Office of Highway Safety.

The OHS said 11 of those charged with DUI were arrested as a part of the state's Checkpoint Strikeforce operation to target drunk drivers.

The DUI checkpoints will continue throughout September. They are scheduled for the following dates:

  • Friday, Sept. 6: Newark (New Castle County DUI Task Force)
  • Friday, Sept. 13: Wilmington (New Castle County DUI Task Force)
  • Saturday, Sept. 14: Bethany Beach (Delaware State Police)

Checkpoint Strikeforce is a six-month long program running through New Year's Eve. It involves setting up weekly DUI checkpoints throughout the state.

Statewide, there have been 2,823 DUI arrests made in Delaware this year.
