RICHMOND, Va. – A freshman on the University of Delaware's women's soccer team earned the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week honor for women's soccer, the league announced Monday.
Forward Natalie Zelenky took home her first CAA weekly honor for her performance in the Blue Hens' home-opener Sept. 6 against Loyala (Md.), officials said. Zelenky contributed a goal and an assist in Delaware's 2-1 overtime win against the Greyhounds. She scored her first collegiate goal in the twelfth minute of the contest, and then provided an assist on teammate Shannon Kearney's game-winning goal in overtime.
The two-point performance is the first by a Blue Hen freshman this season, according to officials. Zelenky is the only Delaware rookie who has registered a point and an assist throughout the first five games of the season.
Head Coach Scott Grzenda said he is very excited that Zelenky was chosen as Rookie of the Week. "She has been consistent and hard-working," Grzenda said. "I'm sure this is only a small part of what we will see from her in the future."
The Blue Hen's next game is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 13 against St. Francis (Pa.) at Delaware Mini-Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and admission is free.
