NEWARK, Md.- Authorities say a several month-long investigation has led to the arrest of a 36-year-old Worcester County man on child pornography charges.

The Worcester County Bureau of Investigation says that on Monday, members of the WCBI, as well as the Department of Homeland Security, Maryland State Police Computer Crimes Unit and the Worcester County Sheriff's Office executed a search and seizure warrant at a home in Newark, Md.

According to the WCBI, Monday's raid was the result of a several month-long investigation that revealed someone inside was sharing and downloading pictures and videos of child pornography.

Investigators said that once inside of the home, numerous items were located and found to contain hundreds of images and videos of child pornography. According to police, an interview of the residents revealed that Jason Gregory Root was responsible sharing and downloading the images.

Root was placed under arrest and charged with six counts of promoting and distributing child pornography and five counts of possession of child pornography. He was later released on a $10,000 unsecured bond.
