PRINCESS ANNE, Md.- The UMES women's basketball team has announced its schedule for the 2013-14 basketball season. The Lady Hawks will play 12 non-conference games including four home games. The team will face 12 opponents from 11 different conferences including teams from the ACC and Big 12 Conference.
On November 8, the team will tip-off the new season at home against the University of South Carolina-Upstate. Afterwards, UMES will have a three-game road trip beginning Nov. 12 as they travel to Washington, D.C. to play American University followed by UMBC on Nov. 16. The team will finish a three-game road trip against new ACC member Syracuse on Nov. 20. On Nov. 23, the Lady Hawks return home for a back-to-back home stand against George Mason followed by Lincoln University on Nov. 26.
Once December hits, the team will travel to play five consecutive non-conference games followed by conference play. The Lady Hawks will begin their road trip against Monmouth on Dec. 3, followed by a trip to Old Dominion on Dec. 7. Next, the team travels to Norman, Okla. to face big 12 foe Oklahoma on Dec. 15 then heads to ACC country to take on Virginia on Dec. 17. The Lady Hawks face Mount Saint Mary's on Dec. 21 to finish their non-conference road trip.
The Lady Hawks begin conference play on the road against South Carolina State University on Dec. 30. Shortly after the start of the New Year, the team travels to Savannah, Ga. To play Savannah State on Jan. 6. On Jan. 11, the team will host the Norfolk State University Spartans, and then will travel back to Washington D.C. for the second time this season to face conference rival, Howard University on Jan. 18. On Jan. 25, the team travels south to play Bethune-Cookman before coming back home for a four-game home stand.
On Jan. 29, the Lady Hawks will play their final non-conference opponent of the season against the New Jersey Institute of Technology. In February, the team will host three consecutive conference opponents; North Carolina A&T on Feb. 1, North Carolina Central on Feb. 3 and Coppin State on Feb. 8. The Lady Hawks will travel to Hampton, Va. on Feb. 10 to play conference rival Hampton University. Afterwards, the team will have a brief two-game home stand vs. Howard on Feb. 15 and Morgan State on Feb. 17, respectively. On Feb. 22, the Lady Hawks will travel to play Delaware State, then conclude the month at home against Hampton on Feb. 24.
In March, the team starts the month on the road against Coppin State on March 3, followed by a trip back to Norfolk to play Norfolk State. The Lady Hawks will wrap-up the regular season at home against Delaware State on March 6. Four days later, UMES will travel to Norfolk for a third time this season to play in the Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference Tournament for a big into the NCAA Tournament.
