PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Two cross country student-athletes have been named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 16.
Sophomore Rachel Halmon, of Waldorf, Md., is a first-time recipient and freshman Khalil Rmidi Kinini, of Malaga, Spain, has received this honor for the second consecutive time.
Halmon was the top UMES women's cross country runner for the second consecutive week after she placed eighth with a time of 19:58.12 in their recent 5k race. Her finish in the race helped her team hold off Delaware State to claim third overall.
Kinini finished in third-place with a time of 20:55.99 at the Delaware State University Invitational in Dover, Del. This finish helped the Hawks to their fourth victory at the invitational in the past five years and helped his team secure the win by one point over Morgan State in the four-mile race.
