Virginia Gets Extra $57M in Federal Highway Funds

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia has received an additional $57 million in federal transportation funds originally allocated to other states.

Gov. Bob McDonnell announced the windfall Monday.

Each September, the Federal Highway Administration reviews every state's ability to commit allocated highway dollars. Money that can't be obligated is returned and redistributed to states that can obligate all their federal highway funds and have additional projects waiting to move forward.

McDonnell says most of the additional money will be spent on paving projects. Also, $1.3 million will be spent on bridge painting and maintenance.
