YORK, Pa.- Wesley College Men's Soccer star Mark Mattern has been named the Capital Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second-straight week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
A senior goalkeeper from Carney, Md., Mattern led the Wolverines to a 1-0 shutout victory over Penn State-Abington before playing Neumann to a 1-1 tie. In the victory over the Nittany Lions, his third-straight shutout, Mattern collected five saves. He ended the week with a season-high ten saves, including one on a penalty kick, against the Knights.
Mattern was also named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Sept. 10, and has acquired a 0.55 goals against average, 90.0% save percentage and 27 saves in his 490 minutes of action this season.
The Wolverines (2-2-2) return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 17 when they travel to Eastern Mennonite for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
