Del. Unemployment Rate Down Slightly in August

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del.– The unemployment rate in Delaware dropped slightly in August, despite a shrinking workforce.

A report out Friday shows the first state's jobless rate dropped to 7.3 percent in August, down from 7.4 percent in July. The number of unemployed Delawareans dropped by about 500.

The state's labor force now totals more than 440,000, which is down 1,500 compared to July.

Democratic Gov. Jack Markell said Delaware's job growth is outpacing the nation, during his weekly message on Friday. However, Republican Party Chairman Charlie Copeland says the latest jobs report is not a good sign.
