Del. Jobless Rate Dips, Number Of Employed Falls

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware's unemployment rate dipped slightly in August, even though the number of Delawareans with jobs decreased amid a shrinking workforce.

A report Friday shows Delaware's jobless rate dropped to 7.3% in August, down from 7.4% in July but equal to or higher than the unemployment rate for every other month over the past year.

The number of unemployed Delawareans dropped by about 500, but the number of those with jobs fell by almost 1,000.

The state's labor force numbered slightly more than 440,000, dropping by about 1,500 compared to July to the lowest point this year.

In his weekly message Friday, Democratic Gov. Jack Markell said Delaware's job growth is outpacing the nation.

Republican Party chairman Charlie Copeland says the latest jobs report is not a good sign.
