GEORGETOWN, Del. (WBOC/AP)- Delaware State Police say they have charged a Georgetown man with attempted murder after he stabbed his wife during an argument.

Troopers said they received a 911 call around 8 p.m. Sunday. The caller said 52-year-old Albert Norman had stabbed his wife. Troopers responded to the 12000 block of Seashore Highway and found Norman's wife had been stabbed multiple times in the upper torso. The woman, who is 37, was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford where she underwent surgery. She is listed in serious but stable condition.

Troopers said Norman's wife and children told them the couple was talking about ending their relationship when Norman suddenly began stabbing his wife in the back with a knife. The children intervened and got their mother to a neighbor's home where she was able to go inside and hide.

Police said that when Albert went to his 57-year-old neighbor's home, he threatened to stab him as well before he drove away from the scene. Troopers said Albert then drove himself to Troop 4 in Georgetown where he surrendered.

Norman was charged with attempted first-degree murder, possession of deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, aggravated menacing, terroristic threatening, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He was ordered held without bail.
