UD Rugby Club Suspended After Campus Disturbance

NEWARK, Del. (AP)- The men's club rugby team at the University of Delaware is appealing a five-year suspension for participation by some members in what police have described as a near-riot.

The team was disciplined after a film crew from an online group called "I'm Shmacked" visited Newark earlier this month, prompting thousands of students to mob the city's streets.

Two men charged by Newark police in connection with the incident are rugby team members who lived in a house where a large party spilled over into a resulting wider disturbance.

The president of the rugby club says the "I'm Shmacked" film crew came into town, extracted footage for a wild video then left, leaving students and the community to "pick up the pieces."
