Md. Delegate Clagett Accused of Election Violation

FREDERICK, Md. (AP)- The Frederick city elections board says state Delegate Galen Clagett broke electioneering rules during the city's Sept. 10 primary.

The board is taking action against Clagett, a loser in the Democratic mayoral primary.

Election judges told the board that Clagett entered polling places and conversed with judges while displaying campaign material on a truck outside. They say he refused to leave when asked to do so.

Clagett denies breaking the rules. He says he entered polling places to get turnout numbers and left after declaring his right to gather the information.

City code prohibits electioneering in polling places or within 100 feet of entrances or exits.

Democrat Karen Young faces Republican Mayor Randy McClement and independent candidate Jennifer Dougherty Nov. 5.
