DEWEY BEACH, Del.- Fifteen pedestrians have been killed so far this year on Delaware roads and there have been several accidents on Route 1 in Sussex County this summer.

To get drivers to slow down and watch out, three speed signs have been installed along the road in Dewey Beach. But drivers have mixed opinions if they will work.

"They just don't want to seem to slow down, it's like an inconvenience you know what I mean," Craig Eutsler said.

For Mitsy Emory, a speed sign always means slow down. "When I see those I slow down immediately to see what my speed is, so I would hope other people would do the same," she said.

Speeding is a danger to everyone on the roads, including Ellen Orrell. "I'm a biker so it's scary for even bikers because it seems like that people are out of control, they don't pay attention to what's going on around them," she said.

Even drivers say they get worried on Route 1 and hope the signs have an impact.

"Because they're going really fast and if you don't look when you're in a car yourself you could be hit, because they're speeding right through," Teresa Strudwick said.

The three speed signs were inspired by a speed sign in Bethany Beach that helped slow down traffic on Route 1 in that area.
