PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Baseball and women's cross country athletes have been named in the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 7.
Senior Byron Campbell, of Waldorf, Md., and freshman Rachel Halmon, of Waldorf, Md., were both named the PRMC UMES Athletes of the Week. This is the first honor of the year for Campbell, and the second for Halmon.
Campbell, outfielder, opened up the fall preseason schedule for the baseball team this past weekend with a performance of 4-for-7 with three RBI and four runs scored. He also had one double and collected hits in his last three at-bats. It was his performance that guided the team to a 25-5 victory over Salem Community College (N.J.) on Saturday.
Halmon guided the women's cross country team to a second-place finish at the DSU Invitational on Friday. The freshman completed the 5k in 19:53.55 as she placed sixth overall. Halmon was the first Hawk to finish the event and was 30 seconds faster than the closest competitor on the team.
