SALISBURY, Md.- There is no school for Wicomico Middle Thursday and Friday after a power outage Wednesday.

The following announcement was made to all Wicomico Middle School families through ParentLink calls on Wednesday:

"Good evening, this is John Fredericksen, Superintendent of Schools. Thank you to all of our parents, students and staff as we dealt with a second power outage at Wicomico Middle School today. Due to the lack of power in the building, Wicomico Middle students will not have school on Thursday, Oct. 10 or Friday, Oct. 11. We anticipate having the school open on Monday, and a confirmation call will be made to you on Sunday."

Parents were able to pick up students from Wicomico Middle School early Wednesday, after the school experienced another power outage, and fire crews responded for a call about an electrical fire.

Wicomico County Public Schools spokeswoman Tracy Sahler tells WBOC the school lost power at approximately 11:40 a.m.

According to Salisbury Fire Chief Richard Hoppes, fire crews from Salisbury, Parsonsburg and Delmar responded to a call of an electrical fire that they believe started in a mechanical room. He said no one was hurt in the incident.

School officials say students and staff were evacuated, then relocated to the gym.
