Georgia-Pacific to Close Harrington Box Facility

Posted:

A Kent County corrugated box factory is closing. Georgia-Pacific officials say the company will shutdown its facility in Harrington by the end of the year. There are more than 90 people working there, who will lose their jobs.

"Our employees there have done a great job," said Julie Davis, a spokeswoman for the company. "They're a talented group of employees. But we can better serve our customers through more centrally-located locations, primarily in Indiana and Mississippi."

Georgia-Pacific employs about 35,000 people nationwide. Harrington workers can apply for other jobs inside the company. Davis says employees will be paid for 60 days though they may not work that whole time.

Georgia-Pacific says it will work with local resources to help people find jobs in the Kent County area.
