Woman Killed, 3 Injured in Northern Del. Crash

Posted: Updated:

NEWARK, Del. (WBOC/AP)- A 90-year-old woman is dead and three others are injured after a high-speed crash in Newark.

Newark police said the crash occurred Saturday evening when a car, driven by 53-year-old Robert Perago of Newark, struck the rear of another at a high speed on Christina Parkway. Police said Perago fled the scene on foot but was apprehended just south of the crash scene.

Police said one car was stopped at a traffic light when it was rear-ended by another car. The woman who was killed, identified as Cora Williamson of Wilmington, was in the rear seat of the car that was stopped.

Two other people who were in their 60s are being treated for injuries, along with the driver of the car that struck the stopped vehicle.

Perago, who police said was found to be under the influence of alcohol, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released from the hospital into police custody. He was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and third offense driving under the influence of alcohol. He was then released on $12,000 cash bail.
