SALISBURY, Md.- The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office on Monday arrested a Salisbury man accused of breaking into a home and using illegal drugs inside.

Police said the incident occurred at around 6:40 p.m. when deputies responded to a call regarding suspicious activity on the 800 block of West Road. According to investigators, 18-year-old Devale Jerwyn Palmer had let himself inside a home without permission on the 700 block of North Westover Drive. According to authorities, Palmer was using illegal drugs at the time.

Police said when the investigating deputy arrived on the scene, he recognized someone matching the description of the suspect who began running away as the deputy got out of his car.

Police said that as the deputy ran after Palmer, people in the area began yelling, "Run Palmer, Run!"

Palmer was caught on Mohawk Avenue but police said he resisted arrest while a crowd began to form around them. Palmer was then secured and the deputy recovered a .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun from his coat, investigators said.

Deputies said that when they searched Palmer's person they recovered a bag of marijuana, along with crack cocaine packaged for apparent sale.

Palmer was charged with CDS possession with the intent to distribute, possession of firearm by a minor, CDS distribution while in possession of a firearm, fourth-degree burglary and resisting arrest. He was ordered held in the Wicomico County Detention Center for $250,000 bond.
