'Chesapeake,' the Film, Set for Va. Shoot in '14

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP)- Actor Keith Carradine is being cast as a Chesapeake Bay waterman in a film to be shot next year in Virginia and the bay region.

Called "Chesapeake," the drama centers on a waterman whose life is changed when he saves a boy from drowning. Carradine calls it a "classic story of loss and redemption."

Writer and director Eric Hurt said he was inspired by the bay's watermen culture, which has been threatened for decades by declining catches in blue crabs and oysters.

Andy Edmunds is director of the Virginia Film Office. He says the project is "perfect representation" of what Virginia film is all about.
