Salisbury football supports teammate fight against leukemia

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University football team has been playing throughout this season with a teammate on their mind who has not been able to suit up in 2013. A.J. Slye is in Virginia, battling leukemia, and while he battles the disease head on, his teammates have been working this week to do what they can to help eliminate it, as well.

On Monday night, the team organized a Leukemia Walk, looking to rally support from the campus and surrounding Salisbury community for the fight.

This week, Salisbury football players have been selling T-shirts bearing an orange ribbon (the color of leukemia awareness) and the words "I support AJ Slye". The shirts are on sale from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in front of Maggs Physical Activities Center and in front of the Commons Dining Hall. Sales will continue on Friday, October 18 and T-shirts will also be on sale at Saturday's game against St. John Fisher College, at Sea Gull Stadium.

All money raised by the team this week will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). The LLS will also have a table at Saturday's game, which is scheduled to begin at noon, providing information regarding the disease and the fight against it.
