Cigarette Smuggling Suspect Charged

OCEAN CITY, Md. - A Worcester county man who's accused of smuggling millions of untaxed cigarettes to New York, now will stand trial for a different set of charges. murder-for-hire.

Police say Basel Ramadan, 42, and his accomplice Yousseff Odeh, 52, were plotting to murder witnesses that they believed helped law enforcement in a multistate cigarette smuggling case against them.

New York city police commissioner Raymond W. Kelly says "fortunately, it was an NYPD detective and not an accomplice of these inmates on the other end of the phone."

Basel Ramadan now facing murder for hire and cigarette smuggling charges. He is behind bars in New York.
