Majestic Hotel in Ocean City Catches Fire

OCEAN CITY, Md. – The Majestic Hotel on the Ocean City boardwalk caught fire Friday afternoon, after witnesses say they heard a large "boom" come from the building.

The Ocean City Fire Department got to the scene in the 600 block of Atlantic Ave. at 12:30 p.m., after Ocean City Communications got the call about the fire. The people that called, a brother and sister.

"We stopped for a second, and my sister said oh my goodness, I think the hotel is on fire," Anthony Keiser said.

His sister, Summer Shutt, said there was a strong burning smell.

"It started coming from under the side of the hotel first, and not from the store," Shutt said.

That's when Keiser and Shutt say they called 911, and five minutes later the Fire Department showed up. Ocean City Communications said the fire was extinguished shortly after fire officials arrived at the scene.

Initial investigation shows that the fire started in the basement store of the hotel. A maintenance worker was the only person on site when the fire broke out because the hotel is currently closed for the winter. The owner of the hotel is out of town.

One fire cadet was treated on scene for a minor injury and has since been released. No other injuries have been reported.

The Ocean City Fire Marshall's Office is still investigating the cause of the fire in Ocean City.
