A Rash of Thefts Puts Snow Hill on Edge

SNOW HILL, Md.- The Snow Hill Police Department is investigating several reports of thefts over the past few days. Suspects typically target unlocked homes and vehicles, according to the police.

"It's just disappointing. We came here too move to a peaceful, happy community, and to hear that someone is disturbing that is very disturbing," said Jane King, of Snow Hill, who is shocked to hear the news.

Five incidents have been reported. But Police Chief Kirk Daugherty believes there were more unreported incidents.

"Sometimes people think, 'well they're not going to catch them [criminals], so we shouldn't bother them," said Daugherty. "But we want to be bothered."

The thefts are random and happen at night, according to police. Most of which, involved unlocked cars or homes.

"You don't need to give the criminal, the opportunity," said Daugherty. He adds, "When you leave your car unlock, when you leave valuables in sight; leave coins in your console, it's inviting. All they have to do is just open the door and remove them. It takes less than a minute."
