PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Two student-athletes from UMES received the honor of UMES PRMC Athletes of the Week for the first time.
Sophomore Diara Lewis, of Columbia, S.C. and freshman Chris Adams, of Brentwood, Md. have been named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 22.
Lewis contributed 22 kills, 53 assists and 12 digs as the volleyball team played in two five-set matches this past week. In Friday's game against Norfolk State, Lewis was second on her team in kills (9), assists (32) and digs (11).
Lewis' week ended with another solid performance at Delaware State on Sunday, finishing tied for first in kills (13), second in assists (21) and adding one dig. In the season, Lewis has contributed 80 kills and 288 assists, along with 60 digs and five aces overall.
Adams earned the men's award for his performance in the alumni baseball game on Saturday. The freshman went 2-for-3 with one RBI in the 5-4 win over the Hawk Alumni team.
Adams' performance in this game, which concludes the baseball team's fall schedule, is working to earn a starting infield spot when the spring season begins in February.
