MSP Works to Enforce 'Move Over' Law

PIKESVILLE, Md. – On Oct. 21, 2013 Maryland State troopers conducted traffic initiatives to enforce the ‘Move Over' law. That law is intended to keep emergency workers safe.

Preliminary results from the traffic initiatives revealed that troopers conducted approximately 1,411 traffic stops during the 24 hour period. Of those stops, about 335 citations and 484 warnings were issued for violations of the ‘Move Over' law.

During the initiatives, troopers also made 20 criminal arrests, issued 476 citations and 409 warnings for other traffic violations.

Drivers obeying the ‘Move Over' law give emergency workers an area for them to work safely. The Maryland State Police will continue to enforce the ‘Move Over' law to keep roadways safe.
