Refuge in Va. Receives Funds to Manage Water Levels
SUFFOLK, Va. (AP) - The Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge is planning improvements to help manage the swamp's water levels.
The Department of the Interior awarded more than $3 million to the refuge for the project. The funding is part of $162 million announced by the department last week for 45 projects aimed at improving protection for Atlantic Coast communities from future powerful storms.
The refuge plans to replace and water control structures to help improve flood control, suppress fires and manage wildlife habitat.
