NEWARK, Del. (AP)- High schools across Delaware are setting aside time over the next month to help seniors with the college application process.

State officials say 20 Delaware high schools are designating school time to help seniors apply for college as part of College Application Month.

Newark High School was the first to begin the help sessions, starting earlier this week. Gov. Jack Markell planned to visit his alma mater on Thursday to promote the program, which began in North Carolina in 2004 and came to Delaware last year as a pilot program involving Lake Forest and Smyrna high schools. Delaware is one of 40 states, long with the District of Columbia, hosting college application events this year.
