Va. Teacher Accused of Embezzling Will Stay on Job

COEBURN, Va. (AP)- Wise County's schools superintendent says a high school teacher accused of embezzlement will remain on the job.

A county grand jury charged 59-year-old Elizabeth Ann Wade of Wise last week with felony embezzlement. The Eastside High School science teacher is accused of embezzling about $10,000 from the Wise County Education Association.

Schools superintendent Jeff Perry says that the school's principal and he both believe that Wade is an asset to the school. He says Wade also received words of support from central office employees.

Cumberland Mountain Univserv reported the discrepancies in the education association's accounts. Uniserv director Doris Boitnott told the newspaper that Wade has repaid the money.
