DOVER, Del. (WBOC/AP)-  The former headmaster of an elite private school in Wilmington has turned himself in to police to face charges of dealing in child pornography.

The Delaware Department of Justice said that the state Child Predator Task Force made arrangements for 53-year-old Christopher Wheeler to turn himself in to detectives Friday afternoon at Delaware State Police Troop #2, where he was charged with 25 counts of dealing in child pornography. He was ordered held in the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $1.5 million cash bail.

Wheeler stepped down as headmaster of Tower Hill School last week after the attorney general's office and Wilmington police searched his home and school office on the 1500 block of Mount Salem Lane as part of a child abuse investigation.

Authorities said an examination of computers and digital media that were seized during the searches recovered multiple images of child pornography.

Child Predator Task Force detectives secured an arrest warrant for Wheeler on Wednesday and had been looking for him until his surrender.
