2 Injured in Head-on Collision in Cheswold

Updated:

CHESWOLD, Del.- Delaware State Police said they are investigating a head-on crash that occurred early Wednesday morning in Cheswold in which both drivers had to be mechanically extricated and sent to a local hospital.

Police said the incident occurred shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday as 48-year-old Christine G. Barr, of Dover, Del., was operating a 2007 Hyundai Sonata westbound on Seven Hickories Road (SR42) about a half-mile east of Seenytown Road. Michael T. Bauers, 26, of Clayton, Del., was operating a 1999 Dodge van eastbound on SR42 and for unknown reasons crossed over the center line and into westbound lanes where the van struck the Sonata head-on.

Both operators were properly restrained and were mechanically extricated by local fire departments, police said. They were transported by EMS to Kent General Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Bauers was cited for failure to remain in a single lane, expired registration, no proof of insurance and no registration in possession.

Police said SR42 was closed for approximately two hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
