Delaware Budget Panel Eyes Grant Funding

Posted:

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Budget writers from Delaware's legislature are meeting to discuss the state's annual grant-in-aid budget.

Thursday's meeting of the Joint Finance Committee in Dover marks the second time the panel has convened in recent weeks in advance of January's start of a new session of the General Assembly.

Officials have suggested that next year could be a tight budget year.

Lawmakers in June approved more than $44 million in grants to senior centers, volunteer fire departments and other community organizations for the current fiscal year, roughly equal to the amount in the previous year.

The annual grant-in-aid bill is third and smallest of state government's three budget bills, along with the operating budget and capital budget.

In addition to the grants package, committee members also were expected to discuss education funding.
